At OMCS we want to provide our personal and business customers with the best support available.  This page will help you with any minor problems you may have and give you details on how to get in touch with us if you have more major troubles.  Of course, if you can't find what you need here feel free to contact us and we will help you solve your problem.

Were you able to log on until just recently, but now your dial-in message tells you to verify your password and try again?

9 times out of 10, you are either inputting an incorrect password, or your CAPS LOCK key has been on while you were typing your password in.  If neither of this solutions applies to you, then your account may have been disabled.  Unfortunately, this isn't a problem you can fix by yourself.   Find out a number to call us on from our contact page and we'll be able to tell you WHY your account was disabled and HOW to get back online again.

Are you having trouble retrieving your email...it starts to download but then stalls and seems to have stopped altogether?

Someone may have sent you an email with an attachment like a file or a photo...any number of things really.  The only cure for this one is to let your email download and try to be patient....sometimes this can take quite a while, but the effort is often worth it!  If this problem persists, check out your email program and you may have an option which allows you to limit the size of emails that can be received by you. If all else fails you can call us during office hours and we can delete the problem mail from your mailbox.

Do you get the error message "Dial-Up Networking cannot negotiate a compatible set of network protocols...etc..."?

Firstly, double-click on your "My Computer" icon, then double-click on the "Dial-Up Networking" icon.   Now RIGHT-hand click on the OMCS icon.  Choose the Server Types button/tab, and then press the TCP/IP Settings button.  Make sure there is a dot in server assigned name server - also make sure that both boxes at the bottom (default gateway and IP header compression) have ticks in their boxes.   If all this seems okay and you still get the same error message, then check the following...

Press the START button in the bottom left hand corner of your screen.  Select SETTINGS and then select CONTROL PANEL.   Inside Control Panel select Network.  When this screen comes up check to see that the TCP/IP protocol has been installed for your dial-up adapter.  If it is not there...you must ADD it to your settings.  This may require your Windows 95 disk.

If you have checked and you DO have TCP/IP in your settings already, then highlight TCP/IP and press the PROPERTIES button.   On the tab that says IP Address you must have a dot in "Obtain IP address automatically".  In DNS configuration, the dot must be in "Disable DNS" and in WINS configuration the dot should be in "Disable WINS configuration".  In Gateway all the options should be blank.

If you have done all of these things, and are STILL having trouble your network protocols are corrupt and you must REMOVE them from within your Network window.  Then shut down your computer and TURN IT OFF AT THE POWER SOURCE.  Leave it for at least 2 minutes, restart it and go back into Network (start-settings-control panel-network) and add the protocols again.  Check to see that all settings are as stated above, and then shut down the computer again for a further 2 minutes.  Restart - and you should be able to log on to the network.  If problems persist - you will need to consult your computer specialist.

Have you forgotten your password, or are you concerned that it may have become known to someone else?

We can change your password at any time over the phone.  However for security reasons we will need to ask you for some personal information that you gave us at the time of joining to confirm your authority to change the password.  For your information - passwords can be alpha or numeric and must be between 4 and 30 characters.

Can you have another email address?

Yes you can.  However, as email uses space on our servers we have to charge you for the extra account.  Our current rates are $55 a year per address and you can have any name you want - provided it isn't already taken!  e.g. pollyanna@omcs.com.au or spamfritter@omcs.com.au

How do I use Outlook Express as my email program?

We have a downloadable file that you can read which will give you all the ins and outs of using Outlook Express. This Microsoft Word file is easy to understand and includes pictures to help you learn how to use the program. Download this file by clicking HERE.

How do you get your free 5mb web site?

It's really easy.  Just click here.  That will take you to another page with all the information you need, and some good links to places where you can get started (if you haven't already!) on learning how to build web sites. OMCS customers only please!
